Discussion Questions:
Why is the core split with a diamond saw? What is so special about diamonds?

Why do the scientists scan the core twice- once before it is split and again after?

Why are the cores refrigerated?

Why is there water running while the core is being split?

If you could claim a sample in the core, what would you be interested in?

What do you notice about the color of different rocks? Look outside and find various hues and see if you can track down exactly why they are different colors.
